Technical Support Note 5

Using Sign-It! with AmiPro/Word Pro

Issue:

Can I use Sign-It! to insert my signature into AmiPro/Word Pro.

Solution:

Yes. Sign-It! supports the power of Microsoft’s Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) which makes inserting graphics into different applications quick and simple.

AmiPro, like nearly all word processing applications supports OLE.

To insert a Sign-It! signature:

  1. Bring up the AmiPro document you wish to insert the signature.
  2. Click on the spot where you wish to insert the signature.
  3. Choose Edit/Insert.
  4. Choose New Object (this will list all available OLE objects).
Choose the Object type Apropos’ Sign-It!
  5. Choose OK. The Sign-It! Signature Server is loaded and the default signature appears.
  6. Using the Sign-It! commands (Edit Signature) change the signature properties if desired.
  7. Choose File/Update (or click on the END icon) to save the changes and return to AmiPro.
  8. Note that the signature is inserted within an AmiPro picture frame. This frame has taken on the AmiPro default frame properties. You may wish to change the properties to modify the border (e.g. no border) and the placement properties (e.g. flow with text rather than have text flow around the frame).
  9. For more details consult the AmiPro documentation regarding inserting OLE objects and Using Text and Picture Frames.

NOTE:

Since Sign-It! includes a TrueType font of your signature it is always possible to use the signature font directly rather than through the OLE mechanism. To use the font directly type an "A" in the document (your signature and first name are stored in the character "A" and "B"). Select the character and change the font to your signature font (e.g. the font name on your Sign-It! diskette label). At the same time increase the point size of the signature, typically 36-48 points is a reasonably sized signature.
