Word Macro Installer Not Finding Normal.dot
Issue:
When running the Word 6.0/7.0 Macro installer, the installer complains that it cannot find the file Normal.dot
Solution:
The Sign-It! Word macro installation procedure involves copying the Sign-It! macro into the Normal.dot document template. This is done so that any document created with the Normal.dot template (default template for any new document) will have access to the Sign-It! macro.
In cases of upgrading from Word 6.0 to Word 97 we have noticed that Word may still look in the old location (Word 6.0) for template files. If the installer cannot find the Normal.dot a dialog will pop up as shown below. If you do not see the dialog below make sure you have the latest Word 97 macro installer (SignWd97.dot) from our web site (www.apropos-sw.com).
This
dialog allows you to enter the location of Normal.dot file on your system. You
can find the Normal .dot file by using the Find utility. The Find utility can be
found by clicking on the Start button, move the cursor to the Find Program Group and click on Files or Folders. Enter Normal.dot into the Named field and select the appropriate hard drive in the Look
In field, and then click OK.
Typically, Word97 will install the Normal.dot file in a location such as:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates. When you find the location of the
Normal.dot file enter the path into the dialog shown above and click OK.
The macro installation should then complete.
