Technical Support Note 2

Altering the Title Block and Font String

Issue:

By default Sign-It! installs with your typed named underneath your signature and defaults to your full signature (Character ‘A’). This is done to demonstrate the capabilities of the title block. However, many customers may prefer to insert only their signature.

Solution:

The title block is a completely flexible feature of Sign-It!. To alter your title block or signature:

  1. Bring up the Sign-It! Signature Server application by double clicking on the Sign-It! icon in the Sign-It! Program Group (Windows 3.1) or for Windows 95 users, from the START button choose PROGRAM, then Sign-It! Program Group, then Sign-It! application.
  2. In the Sign-It! window the most frequently used commands are available as icons in the toolbar. Click on the wrench icon which sets up the default properties for your signature.
  3. The Edit Default dialog box comes up which allows complete editing of the entire signature block.
  4. To change your signature character click on Font String for a pop up menu of signature characters (setup installs the list of characters). You can now select ‘A’ or ‘B’ or whatever additional characters are defined in your font. If for some reason all the desired characters do not show up in the pop menu, simply type type the character into the Font String Box and click Add to add it to the pop up menu.

To remove or edit the title block, edit the three lines of text at the bottom of the dialog box which determines the title block information. To delete your name, select the text and delete it. To change the font of the title block text, click on the font button to the right of the line of title block text you wish to edit. Each line of title block text can have its own font properties. It the line of title block text needs to be moved up or down use the lead spacing parameter to move the text closer to (minus value) or further away from the signature.
  5. Once you are satisfied with the changes to the default signature properties click on OK to close the Edit Default dialog box. Click on the END icon in the Signature Server to close Sign-It!
  6. Now whenever your signature is inserted it will have the properties you set as default.

To make a one time change to a signature:

  1. Once a signature is inserted, double click on the signature. The Sign-It! Signature Server appears.
  2. Click on the icon with a pencil drawing an "A". This brings up the Edit Current Signature dialog box. This dialog box is identical to the Edit Default. Dialog box mentioned above, except its properties only apply to the current signature.
  3. Follow the same steps as above to make one time changes to the Signature Font.
