Modifying the Toolbar in MS
Word
Issue:
After installing the Sign-It!
macro in MS Word the user desires to move the position of the
Sign-It! Toolbar icon, or due to multiple installs there may be
duplicate Sign-It! icons.
Solution:
Word provides the ability to edit
any of the toolbars. The following are some brief instructions,
you may also consult the Word documentation for further details.
The Sign-It! macro and toolbar
modifications are stored in the Normal.dot template file which is
used as the basis for any new (blank) document.
- Load the Normal.dot file by
clicking on the File menu and selecting Open. In the file
dialog change the Files of Type to Document Templates and
change the path the location of your Word template files
(e.g. for Word 95, C:\MSOffice\Template) and choose the
Normal.dot file.
- Now that the Normal.dot file
is loaded any changes made to the toolbars, macros,
menus, etc. will be stored in the Normal.dot file and
available anytime a new blank document is created.
- To edit the toolbar, click on
the View menu and select Toolbars. Click on the Customize
button in the Toolbars dialog.
- Now you can make any changes
you desire to the toolbar. You can move toolbar icons by
clicking on the icon and dragging the icon to the new
position. To delete an icon click on the icon and drag
the icon outside the toolbars and release, the icon is
deleted.
- When edits are complete click
on the Close button in the customize toolbar dialog.
- Close Word and restart Word.
The new toolbar should now appear.
