Using Sign-It! With ACT Contact Manager

Question:

Can Sign-It! be used with Symantec ACT Contact Manager?

Answer:

We are in the process of acquring a copy of ACT to verify the exact procedures to insert a Sign-It! signature. We have other customers who are using ACT and Sign-It! The following is a standard description of using Sign-It! with any application.

Using OLE

Since Sign-It! is a authentic OLE server any application that supports OLE can use the following method. Virtually all major applications support OLE including I believe ACT.

After installing Sign-It! and running Sign-It! for the first time to register itself in the registry you may insert a signature. In the desired application look for a command Insert Object. Depeding on the application this command may be in different menus. For example, in Word the Insert menu has an Object command. In Write the Edit menu has a Insert Object command. After invoking Insert Object a dialog box appears listing all available OLE objects to insert. An object named Apropos’ Sign-It! should be in the list. Select this object and click OK. Your default signature will appear at the current insertion point.

Using the Signature Font Directly

Since Sign-It! includes a TrueType font of your signature it is always possible to use the signature font directly rather than through the OLE mechanism. To use the font directly type an "A" in the document (your signature and first name are stored in the character "A" and "B"). Select the character and change the font to your signature font (e.g. the font name on your Sign-It! diskette label). At the same time increase the point size of the signature, typically 36-48 points is a reasonably sized signature.
