Word Macro Installer Not Finding Normal.dot
Problem:
When running the Word 6.0/7.0 Macro installer, the installer complains that it cannot find the file Normal.dot
Solution:
The Sign-It! Word macro installation procedure involves copying the Sign-It! macro into the Normal.dot document template. This is done so that any document created with the Normal.dot template (default template for any new document) will have access to the Sign-It! macro.
If the installer cannot find the Normal.dot file check to make sure the Normal.dot file exists in the specified template directory. To determine the specified template directory click on the Tools menu button and select Options. This will bring up a dialog with several tabs, one being File Locations. Click on File Locations and check the directory specified for User Templates. This is where the macro installer will look for the Normal.dot file. Make sure Normal.dot is in this directory. If you do not have any Normal.dot file on your system (should have been installed at time of Word installation), copy one from another working system or reinstall Word.
In certain cases when upgrading from Word 6.0 to 7.0 we have noticed that Word may still look in the old location for template files. To work around this problem, make a backup copy of your normal.dot in your current template directory. Copy normal.dot to the old Word 6.0 template directory. Run the Sign-It! macro installer. Close Word. Copy the normal.dot from the Word 6.0 template directory to the Word 7.0 template directory. Restart Word.
